Fundraising Tips and Tricks

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about fundraising to help guide you as you create your Mutt March Fundraising Pages.

How do I get people to donate?

Your story is the first thing people will see when visiting your fundraising page, so your goal is to make it as impactful as possible. Choose to share a personal anecdote about why you support Michigan Humane. Sharing how Michigan Humane has impacted your life or your community in a meaningful way will help to show others why you have created a fundraiser.

Tip: Emotional connections are compelling ways to encourage donations. Tell a story that comes from the heart. Maybe you have adopted an animal, utilized our clinic, or volunteered with us - sharing your experience with Michigan Humane is a great way to show others how you have directly benefited from our services.

What's the best way to share?

Sharing your fundraising campaign via your Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn, in addition to your own personal email list, is at the heart of every campaign. Leveraging these networks is how you'll meet—and hopefully exceed—your fundraising goals.

Tip: Seeing others are already supporting a cause can help to encourage donations, so getting a close friend or family member to make your first donation is likely to encourage others to get on board as you announce your campaign.

How do I increase my reach on social media?

Using hashtags and tagging friends or family in your fundraising campaigns can help increase your reach on social media. Additionally, include a "Call to Action" encouraging friends and family to not only donate but to help share your posts can reach a whole new network of supporters!

Tip: Consistent engagement with your support is key to keeping momentum. This keeps your posts on the top of the timeline and on the top of your supporters' minds. Examples of this are sharing thank you posts tagging friends and family who have supported your cause. Please make sure to respect your donor’s privacy, it is general practice to refrain from sharing donation amounts.

What if I am not a social media person, how do I support?

Fundraise the old fashion way! Potential supporters that you see often and may not connect with online include, work acquaintances (co-workers, business partners, vendors, clients), associates from group activities (teammates, coaches, classmates), members of organizations (church or spiritual groups, clubs), neighbors, local community relationships (hairstylists, doctors, local businesses)

Tip: Create a QR code with a free online QR code generator that links to your fundraising page and carry it in your wallet or purse.

How do I get my friends and family to participate?

Become a team captain! Starting a team fundraiser allows your network to support your fundraising goals while also creating their own. Fundraising teams allow users to work together to meet larger fundraising goals.

Tip: Getting a group together to host a fundraising event is a great way to get others involved. Examples of events we have seen include Bake Sales, Birthday Fundraisers, texting parties, group dog walks, and more!
